Is it a plane? Is it a bird? Is it Superman? No! It’s the Goodyear Blimp! Truly one of America’s most recognized corporate icons, the Goodyear Blimp, can often be spotted in the bright blue sky of South Florida’s east coast. Since 1986, the blimp resides in Pompano Beach.
Since its creation, the Goodyear Blimp, has made a remarkable name for itself. From covering sporting events to being in films, even making a cameo appearance in the Beattles’ movie “Help”; pretty cool huh? I believe that everyone has heard of it. But did you know that you can hitch a ride in one?
Oh yeah! This is one item for the bucket list and already in the agenda for the next time I head down to South Florida. Most rides are awarded to Goodyear’s customers, winners of local charity auctions, local dignitaries or members of the media. You will have to fill out an application and submit it in advance, check it out here: https://www.goodyearblimp.com/passenger-guide/.
My advice would be to submit your application as soon as you know the dates of your trip. I wish you good luck in obtaining your certificate granted and earning your aerial blimp wings! Please share with me if you are one of the lucky passengers. 🙂
Fun Fact: A blimp, or non-rigid airship, is an airship (dirigible) or barrage balloon without an internal structural framework or a keel. Blimps rely on the pressure of lifting gas (usually helium) inside the envelope and the strength of the envelope itself to maintain its shape.
