For a small town zoo, the Cape May County Zoo is quite impressive! The zoo went from around 70 animals in its debut, in 1978, to over 500 animals, representing 250 species, today. You will find a fair variety of animals such as: African lion, amur tiger, bald eagle, giraffe, golden headed lion tamarin and Grant’s zebra just to name a few. I can honestly say that it rivals any big city zoo.
The zoo is accredited by the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) and is a non-profit organization. The admission to the Cape May County Park & Zoo is free. Yes, you read that right! So please be kind and give a few dollars at the gate; I promise you, you are getting a bargain and you won’t regret it! Bring a picnic and enjoy the grounds after you tour the zoo.
The Cape May County zoo is located about 15 minutes north of Wildwood, NJ, and is open 364 days a year (closed on Christmas), weather permitting, from 10am to 4:30pm.
It’s the perfect place to bring the whole family! 🙂
